In POLI 6150, I developed a briefing book examining the Airport Improvement Program and its role at Auburn University Regional Airport. This assignment required me to look beyond the funding itself and consider how airport infrastructure affects different groups, including airport operators, aviation users, surrounding communities, businesses, and government agencies. I also examined how federal, state, and local governments work alongside nonprofit organizations and private-sector partners to address infrastructure needs. Through this project, I developed a better understanding of how the needs of individual communities influence public investment decisions, particularly for smaller regional airports with limited local resources. I learned that effective public administration requires considering both national policy objectives and the unique needs of the communities being served. This perspective will help me make more informed and community-focused decisions throughout my career in airport administration.
